Do snipers lay on top of tank turrets during combat?

You are totally exposed to every weapon system being fired at the tank and you are also “Skylined” if you stand upright. If the tank is moving at speed your going in be hanging on to random points getting bounced around.

all in all it’s just really not practical for a Sniper who relies on low/no visibility positioning to observe the enemy. Tanks draw way too much attention from the enemy, immediately become targets of Priority, you are way to exposed on top, with a poor position to set up on, over all it would be really really dumb unless there was some outlandish odd ball reason I don’t see why any true Sniper would even bother doing something like this. As an US Army 19DB4 qualified Sniper I could never seen any viable reason why A Sniper Would Go Prone on top of a Tank in active combat. Tank aka Armour warfare is primarily Manoeuvre base combat I personally would not want to be riding around prone on a Tank that’s engaged in Active Combat. Could you imagine how ridiculous that would be ? A dude in a ghillie suit proned out on the turret of an Abrams Tank that’s hauling ass across a field attacking 2–3 Russian T72 Pop-Tops ?

What about when that main gun goes Boom I do not want to be Laying Down on the Turret. Yikes !! The Tankers keep all their gear in their bustle racks or hanging on the Tank, so I don’t want to ended up with someone dirty underwear getting blown out of their pack when someone shoots at the tank and someone’s Alice pack shreds open throwing Dirtty Foot Fungus Smelly Socks and Nasty Skid-Marked Tanker Panties all over me. 🤮

Snipers on Tank Turrets While Tanks Are In Combat That’s Some Video Game Shit and Not Usually Going to happen in Reality but Sometimes In War On The Battlefield Crazy Shit That Normally Is So Crazy It Isn’t Done Normal Happens You Never Know…..

That’s the last place any Sniper would ever want to be is on top of is a Tank rolling into combat. Everyone looking at that tank is going to be like “Holy F There is a Guy Laying down,in some halfassed prone position feet hanging off the Turret With a Bolt Action Rifle!!! Fire that Javelin, TOW, NLAW, Zoomy Boomy Drone, RPG Etc At that Tank while I call for Fire on this.

Plus The Turret could be rapidly spinning from target to target as the tank is porpoising up and down over the bumpy hilly terrain . I mean the turret is stabilising the whole time but still I’m not going to be able to break off rounds at targets because I’m holding on for dear life praying I don’t get anally probed by a Suicide Drone and blown off the turret. If the Muzzle blast from the main gun doesn’t rattle all my dental work out of my head….

It’s a horrible position for you to be. It’s not a flat level surface there are Hatches, mounting points, Bolts Heads, Rivets, Sharp welded pokey metal protuberances, Reactive Armour tiles, Cope Cages, Whole Amish Pole Barns (Like The Russians are using right now in the Ukrainian War. )

In general No,I have seen some Bizarre Off the Wall Batshit Crazy Shit go down in Combat Zones so I’m not going to say Without a doubt it’s a No Go. After all I am sure it could happen but it’s most likely probably not going to. As a Sniper you rely on your ability to stay hidden from view. Tanks are not things that usually go undetected or unnoticed. Tanks are attention magnets, I don’t think I have to explain why? But just in case Tanks are mobile Cannon and MachineGun platforms covered in armour. they traditionally have been a nightmarish opponent to have to face off against unless you are another Tank. (Drones Javelins NLAWs have changed this now) Tanks are not sneaky, Low key or easy to overlook. Tanks grab immediate attention from friends, enemies and everyone else around. The enemy infantry smartly so immediately gets ghost when a Tank starts rumbling in up, at the same time their anti armour teams start shifting around getting into position to get a shot and or someone usually gets on the radio and calls their own tanks, or requests Airframes or Artillery Assets to stop by and say hello to whatever Tanks are coming to visit.
